Bulletin 156 – January 2008: Summary
Front cover:
From Russia with Love: Photos illustrating Yveline & Marcel Hamon’s account of their trip to Russia with other members of the club in July & August 2007 (see page 6). Russian motorhomes were few and far between, hence the photo! Also a photo of the beautiful church of Bogolioubovo, near the town of Vladimir, east of Moscow with its amazing blue domes.
Happy New Year for 2008!
May all overland motorhome travellers, dreaming of new horizons, be granted tolerance, solidarity, warmth and friendship around us, in the heart of the club and wherever in the world we may travel. May our lives and our families be strong, happy and healthy; may our lives lead us towards other suns and other smiles waiting to be discovered, and so many friendships waiting to be shared.
Back cover:
Photos taken by Christiane and Jacques Dumas in India showing the difficulties of overtaking, three places they stayed for the night, people they met en route and the contrasts they encountered at the Temple of Amritsar between Buddhist works of art and everyday misery and dirt. Despite this, roads are being constructed, schools are thriving and India is slowly but surely moving towards becoming a progressive society. A full account of their trip can be found on the website in French.
The clock has struck twelve.
I’m delighted to wish a Happy New Year on behalf of myself and the committee to you and those dear to you wherever you may be — at home in France, the UK, Belgium, Spain, Norway, the USA, Australia, Canada, Switzerland, Andorra, New Caledonia, in your motorhome somewhere on one of the five continents, or reading this in an internet café somewhere.
May all aspects of 2008 be productive and happy for you.
May you have excellent health, peace and joy.
May you have many enriching encounters, smiles and handshakes.
May you have blazing sunsets, mountains sparkling in a blue sky, verdant valleys, friends in all four corners of the world, the Red Sea and the Black Sea, the Yellow River and the Blue Nile, the Land of Fire and glacial lakes, storms and gentle breezes, waterfalls and deserts and plenty of smiles and conversations, whether in at home or at the other end of the world.
May you have a thousand dreams, a hundred projects, may ten of them get off the ground.
May you have a diary full to bursting. May you have some peaceful moments.
Travel the world and come back with your eyes filled with places and faces.
Enrich yourselves with your memories, with your future, becoming ever more receptive to other people and peoples, whether it’s a single shepherd or a teeming crowd, with a desire to know better, to understand better, to love better…
Come home with the desire to leave again…
